Bio-floc technology (BFT) is an aquaculture system based on in situ microorganism generation that is environmentally benign. Here pond growth is made up of aggregates of living and dead particle organic matter, phytoplankton, bacteria, and bacteria grazers. It involves the use of microbial processes within the tank/pond to offer food resources for culture organisms while also acting as a water treatment tank. As a result, this system is sometimes referred to as an active suspension pond.
